SPX 2007

(Kevin H, Jeffrey Brown and Anders Nilsen enjoying SPX)
SPX was so much fun. It's my favourite North American show. it's more social and less stressful than MoCCA, and people spend more and party more. I didn't go last year and I'm glad- I think it pays to skip a year. And to work someone else's table instead of your own.
So Ted and I helped staff the Buenaventura Press table this year with BP's Jordan. Jordan's awesome. He has a little beard:
Ted May and Jason Robards signed copies of 'Injury'. And drank proper booze. Unusually for jason, he's more of a 'puff man' himself:

Sparkplug Comics' Dylan Williams (green tea man):

Miss Lasko-Gross and Mr Gary Groth. I swear this is the third shot I took and they were all shaky. I didn't want to try their patience with further pictures. They were very charming:

Saint Louis's own Matt Kindt. Spy on 'em, Matt:

The best fans ever:

Highlights of the show included Gilbert Hernandez's audience with Gary Groth, meeting and hanging out with the awesomely hilarious Warren Craghead. And drinking with Karen Schneider. And being mistaken for Rutu Modan ("I assure you I'm not her. pause. Okay, I'm her"). And getting to meet Heidi MacDonald. And Jordan BP's traveller tales. And hanging out with Nick Abadzis and Roger Langridge. And meeting the lovely David Lasky who is every bit as charming as his online persona suggests. The only sucky part was that
ellenlindner wasn't there, neither was Gabrielle Bell nor Vanessa Davis or Lauren Weinstein. Where were those ladies at?
Well anyway, I can't really complain. We had the best SPX ever (sez me and Ted) and now we're back in St Louis, and so is John Porcellino- who's doing a signing at Star Clipper Comics (10/17/2007, 5-8pm) With Kevin H and Dan Z and Ted M. So the good times keep on coming.
